Samsung E2550 Monte Slider
The Samsung E2550 Monte Slider is a device with a nice, sleek appearance that packs a decent range of entertainment and communication features, affording the user an enjoyable mobile experience. The Monte Slider is a member of the new Samsung Monte range, which features a range of good, stylish handsets sporting a number of different abilities, with other phones in the line including the C3200 Monte Bar and the S5620 Monte. The Slider itself comes packed with an integral camera, music player, a Web browser, a colourful user-interface and an excellent, highly elegant slide-out keyboard. The Slider is an appealing, compact device, which is ergonomic for easy uses and is also very easy to store in the pocket for transportation.
The front of the device features a two-inch TFT screen display, and this is where the device’s colour display is shown. Immediately beneath the display is a large and square navigation control, featuring selection and call keys. The handset can be used in its closed position to gain access to the user’s phone book and messaging service, among other things, or the device can be slid to show the lower section of the phone’s casing where the numerical keypad can be found. As a result of its slider style form the Monte Slider is very compact, with dimensions of 9.85cm in length by 4.85cm in width and 1.44cm in depth, great-even for those with small hands.
The device, complete with casing, weighs a very light 85.5 grams – including the integral, fitted battery. The casing itself is black and glossy and features chrome-coloured edges, which lend it a stylish and even classy edge. This colouring also accentuates the camera lens and the square navigation key. The rear of the casing also has a subtly sculpted curve, which makes it ultra-ergonomic to use and hold in the hand.
As far as media and entertainment are concerned on the Slider it fully supports MP3 file ring tones and new tones can be easily downloaded online or transferred via the range of connectivity options. The integral FM radio also supports a radio data system as well as allows FM recording. A great feature of the music player allows the user to play their favourite songs immediately, whether they have been downloaded online or transferred to the device through some other means. The music player supports a range of file playback formats as well including WAV, MP3, WMA and eAAC.
The Slider also comes complete with an integral camera that, a little disappointingly, is only 1.3 mega-pixels. The camera does, however, pack some useful extras, including still photo and video recording capabilities and well as a selection of settings allowing the user to choose the best settings for their imaging requirements. Photo viewing and video playback are also fully supported.
Gaming fans will also be catered for on the Slider and games can be freely downloaded from the Web which will doubtless keep the legions of game fans happy with their mobile experience.
In addition to its other features the device is capable of recording missed calls, calls dialled from the handset as well as recently received calls. The call log feature is easy to access through the main menu and calls can be made from the calls record, allowing for speed and ease of use. Text messaging is predictive as well which also speeds up messaging for those preferring text options. Photos and short videos can also be shared between users via MMS, a good standard feature for many users today.
The battery allows for around 6.6 hours of talk time from a fully charged battery and the Slider works over a Dual-Band network, covering GSM 900 and 1800, allowing for usage in both the UK and Europe. There is also both Bluetooth and USB connectivity, allowing users a choice of connection options.
